Frontline Israel SUKKOT tour with ICZC

Last month our focus was on the event during the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot).  Around 6000 people from all over the world came to Jerusalem to celebrate together.

We travelled to sites and visited the people all over the country of Israel and held rallies, marches, and prayer vigils. Full article

Jabotinsky Museum

jabotinskyWhile in Tel Aviv during the Sukkot tour, Frontline people visited the impressive and informative center about Israel’s historical Zionist leader, Ze’ev (Vladimir) Jabotinsky (1880-1940). This exhibition focused on his “political and educational activities in the service of Zionism.”

At one of the most difficult times in Jewish history, the eve of the Holocaust and the Second World War, people of all ages left their homes and families, were tossed on the stormy sea for many days, and finally reached their destination, their homeland Israel.  Jabotinsky, responsible for saving 20,000 Jews, brought them illegally in "30 boats, in spite of everything," which was enacted before our eyes.  The giant screen gave us the feeling that we were right in the middle of the events we were seeing and hearing.  This museum will certainly be a part of the extended tour for our upcoming June event.

Gush Katif Refugee Camps

Two residential centers housing 90 and 160 families each, gave us an overview of the people’s present situation and exasperating wait as the government drags its feet to rehabilitate them.  The clean but cramped accommodations were fully used by the people, and their attitudes were commendable in spite of the tight financial situations,

(paying on the mortgages for their destroyed property as well as present rent, with minor jobs or even unemployment.) One resident, the contact person for the settlement, invited us to his small house and shared cool drinks as he related his frustrations.  Their urgent needs include financial help promised by the government, new location for a permanent settlement, and job security.

We were escorted to the fertile valley that is part of the relocation promise and experienced the vast vineyard, even partaking in the gleaning of green grapes clustered over our heads!  Over the hill and around the bend our guide showed us an ancient cave with a grinding wheel, thought to be over 2000 years old.

Menachem Begin Heritage Center

One of Israel’s historical strong leaders, Menachem Begin, a former Israeli Prime Minister is immortalized in Jerusalem in a recently constructed museum.  The multilingual guide took us through his life showing many exhibits and videos on several levels, imparting to us the courage and spirit of survival, justice, and love of G-d through Mr. Begin’s visions and determination.  This center will definitely be a highlight on upcoming tours.

Menachem Begin quote for column:  "'Righteousness, righteousness shall you pursue,' will be the guiding principle in our relations amongst ourselves."
