The Palestinian government led by acting Prime Minister Salam Fayyad has cooperated with Israel to strike Gaza merchants who are close to Hamas movement, pro-Hamas daily Palestine reported on Tuesday.
The Ramallah-based Fayyad government has sent lists of the pro-Hamas dealers to Israeli coordination offices at Gaza crossings to prevent any goods for those merchants from entering the Gaza Strip, said the report.
According to the report, the lists included the names of businessmen, merchants and companies which helped Hamas importing basic goods through the Israeli-run crossing points.
Details of the imported goods, the nature of the companies' work and the Israeli transporters that carry the goods to the Israeli side of the crossings were also included.
Sources were quoted as saying that Fayyad government members had also asked the pro-Hamas merchants to pay multiplied taxes to get their shipments into Gaza and, in return, facilitating the delivery of goods for businessmen close to Fatah.
Israel announced the Hamas-run Gaza Strip a hostile entity and tightened the closure of all crossing points, allowing only the minimum humanitarian needs to make their way into the strip.
Hamas seized the territory in mid June after routing forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of rival Fatah movement. As a result, Abbas sacked the Hamas-led government and appointed Fayyad to form a government free of Hamas members.
